FHLBank Boston Donates to Catie’s Closet
FHLBank Boston has donated $10,000 to Catie's Closet to benefit the nonprofit organization’s Haircare for All initiative and participated in other initiatives to support the organization.
More About Catie's Closet
Catie’s Closet provides clothing, toiletries, and other necessities to students living in poverty through its In-School Closet Program and SOS Urgent Response Program. With its In-School Closet Program, the organization transforms unused spaces in public schools throughout Massachusetts and New Hampshire into closets where students can discreetly select clothing and other items that they need at no cost. Since its inception in 2009, Catie’s Closet has created 125 closets serving 85,000 students each day. The organization’s Haircare for All initiative provides hair care products for students of all ethnicities with natural and textured hair.
As part of its support of Catie’s Closet, FHLBank Boston also collected donations of clothing, hair care products and other toiletries; volunteered at the organization’s distribution center in Boston’s Hyde Square neighborhood to sort through donations; and organized a 5K run/walk to raise funds to purchase new sneakers for children in need.
“By providing access to clean clothing and basic necessities, Catie’s Closet is helping to make the school experience more positive for students of all ages and better positioning children and youth to have a successful academic experience,” said Timothy J. Barrett, president and CEO of FHLBank Boston.
“FHLBank Boston has truly gone above and beyond to join our work and make an impact on the students we serve,” said Mickey Cockrell, CEO and co-founder of Catie’s Closet. “We rely on community support to fuel our mission and we are so thankful for this incredible donation and additional support from FHLBank Boston.”
