FHLBank Boston's Culture

Transcript

There are so many factors that people think about when they make a decision to choose an employer. The opportunities within the organization, how well are you treated? Are you fairly compensated? Are there good benefits?

What we're working on is being mindful of what all those factors are and making sure the Bank's putting its best foot forward on a daily basis in those areas.

The culture is to continuously improve and to look for opportuntiies for advancement either developmental advancement or even career advancement.

The Bank's commitment for learning and development, they take it very seriously. We have a lot of programs both internally and externally that we offer to help with development.

Here at the Bank, I've been given opportunities to advance in my career. I've been given opportunities of mentorship and even sponsorship, which got me into this role. So I really appreciate just the culture that we're creating here at the Bank, and I'm happy to be part of the culture going forward.

For us the affordable housing component of what we do, I think really resonates with people.

It's a big mission, it's a big purpose. Providing liquidity, making sure that we're backing our members and helping everyone work, live, and enjoy the American Dream, right? That's what it's all about.

They're always looking for innovative ways to make a greater impact, to have a better culture, and make a bigger difference, both within the communities that we serve and for their employees.

We've got a lot of long-service employees, which says something about the experience of working here. We also have quite a few folks that we call boomerangers, people who worked, left, and then came back. Also says a lot about the organization.

A boomerang is someone that left the Bank and that has returned to work here again.

I'd been here for about two and a half years, and then I left for personal reasons, and I came back after about seven years, and I've been back with the Bank since September of 2007. So it's a good team. We all support each other, and we all are contributing to being able to help communities.

At the end of the day, we're creating an inclusive culuture where people look around and feel respected and they feel like this a place that they can really grow and develop their career.

The Bank afforded me the opportunity, a college kid who didn't know too much, to learn about banking and get to the point I am now. I love this place and I love my coworkers, so it's been great. It's been awesome.
